Agriculture

This section is on Agriculture - Nigeria and Africa agriculture - with proffered solutions to some of our problems.  Africa is inundated with several problems among which are, Poverty, Hunger and Malnutrition, Ethnic Wars, and HIV/AIDS. Nonetheless, many Africans have not lost hope about the ability of the continent to survive and progress. Views on these problems and possible solutions are offered in this section. The views here are largely personal opinions and do not reflect the views of particular political groups or organizations.

In previous updates we presented interesting insights and background to the war in The Ivory Coast. That insight was given by a family member who worked there before the troubles. We also brought you two articles of great relevance to African development  They are on, Fertiliser Usage and Subsidies.

You will also find here the story of how the Cassava crop is becoming a commercial and Internationally tradable crop, not only in Nigeria but also in other African countries.

We present for records, the speech of President Obasanjo of Nigeria to a meeting of Eminent Persons Group at the Rockefeller  Headquarters in New York on the proposed Africa Fertiliser Summit coming up in Abuja in June 2006. That summit could open the gate to the often talked about African Green Revolution.

In the current update we present the news of the support given by the Gates and Melinda Foundation and the Rockefeller Foundation to boost the African Green Revolution project.
