Letters From USA 5

Hi, Mum and Dad
I miss you guys so much. I was on the phone with Bros Akin this morning before he left NY for Harare and it was nice hearing his voice.

School is in full swing. I have no clue how this semester will turn out, for the work is incredible. Therefore, I'm taking the initiative of starting my projects early. This will give me more time to manoeuvre as the semester draws to a close. I'm taking 4 classes. History and Aesthetics of film editing, Text analysis, Feature film writing and a Practicum for scriptwriters. I have chosen to shoot a film for the Editing course even though as a writing student, I'm not required to. My Prof has given me the go ahead. He shares my thoughts on grabbing every opportunity of getting all the practical experience I can.

I didn't know the MFA was such a prestigious and important program here. I was fortunate to be accepted for it from among many students that applied for it. America is a very competitive place. But I hope to do my best to justify the confidence you guys have in me.

I can't thank Akinyemisi enough for this opportunity. My fees and books alone for this semester, if converted to naira, will make one a naira millionaire. It's almost impossible to school over here without financial aid of some kind. Every American I know, is on one form of loan or the other. It takes coming to America to realize the real value of the dollar. Unlike Nigeria, over here, you work for all you spend. Nothing is free.

Thanks for your prayers. Thanks, Daddy for the Poetry competition information you sent. I'm definitely going to enter for it. How is Ilorin? How is Elidel? How is Nigeria? Aunty and Uncle? Love you all.

Bunmi.
