Ibadan Chronicle 2
On
27th January, the St. James Cathedral, Oke-Bola, Ibadan was officially
dedicated by His Grace, Most Revd Peter J. Akinola, D.D, Primate of the
Anglican Communion in Nigeria. He was ably assisted by His Grace, Most Revd
Dr. Ephraim Adebola Ademowo, PhD, the Archbishop of Province One and His
Lordship, Rt. Revd J. O. Akinfenwa, B. Ed, Bishop of Ibadan Diocese. The
ceremony was colourful and spiritually fulfilling because it was a
culmination of years of hard work and sacrifices made by the congregation of
St. James, which Pa and Mama Adesina are part of.
The
first Saint James Church started on January 1, 1869. By March 28, 1948 it
was replaced by the Cathedral of Saint James, at Ogunpa, Ibadan. As the
years go by, a plan was made to build a new Cathedral in a bigger and more
accessible site at Oke-Bola. The new Cathedral took several years to
complete after its foundation was laid on 7th January 1965. The first
worship was held there on January 15, 1995 and seven year later, the
Cathedral was Dedicated and Consecrated for the service of God and the
Glorification of His name.
Ibadan Diocese,
which was created 50 years ago in i952, also celebrated her Golden Jubilee
with a Thanksgiving on the same day of the Cathedral Dedication. The two
combined celebrations were a veritable event and a landmark in the
advancement of the Church, not only in Ibadan, but through out the Western
Region of Nigeria and the whole country. The "Ibadan Chronicle" rejoice with
Pa and Ma Adesina and thank God for sparing their life to see the great
day. We also congratulate the Anglican Communion of Nigeria, the Bishops,
Clergy and Congregation of the Cathedral.
