You’re probably
wondering, “What kind of title is this?” but once I’m done with this article
you’ll understand.
Our school (Yeshua
College) has a netball team (netball is a sport much like basketball except
that you don’t bounce the ball at all; you pass it and shoot).
On the 27th
of May our team found out that we qualified to go to the National netball
games in Kempton Park, Johannesburg. The problem was that we had to raise
R6,000 in 2 days! “R6,000 in 2 days; you must be CRAZY” at least
that is what some people thought. Even our principal thought that we had lost
our minds; but that didn’t stop us from going to individuals and big companies
for sponsorship.
On that same day,
school ended at 12:30 because it was a Friday. Two of my friends and I decided
that we would cancel our plans for the day and look for sponsorship. We
started around 1:30 because my parents picked us up from school a bit late. We
got R390 (exactly) that day. We had R3,610 to go.
The next day the
rest of the netball team (except one of our reserves) all helped so we were
eight in number. We were feeling quite excited because we were more in number
so that meant more money (hopefully).
At the end of the
day we raised R766, so in total we had R1,156. We really could not do anything
on Sunday because we had to go to church and most shops are open for a short
time.
So on Monday our
principal called us to her office and asked us how much we had made. We told
her that we raised R1,156 and that she should please give us more time. On top
of that we had another problem. We were supposed to tell the organizers to try
and make space for us (our coach cancelled our reservations because >>> |
she felt that we couldn’t raise such a large amount of money in such a short
time).
We girls (the
netball team) decided that we would walk by faith and our coach agreed; so we
told the organizers to reserve spaces for us.
My mum said that
she would see how much we could raise and then see how much she could
contribute. So I called her from school and told her everything. After that
she agreed that her company would sponsor us… with R1,500. I
excitedly said thank you, told my coach (who couldn’t believe what she was
hearing), then ran to class to tell my team mates. When they heard the news
they SCREAMED!!! So we had R1,156 plus R1,500 plus the money one of our
classmates got for us (R30). In total we had R2,686.
This means that we
had R1,314 to go. (Because we had cut our costs from R6,000 to R4,000).
After that our
coach and our youth pastor sponsored us with R417 each. (That made R834, which
left us with R480 rand more to raise.) When we saw how much we had to go we
decided to divide the remaining amount between the players except me because
my mother already sponsored us with a lot of money. So for the first time in
the history of Yeshua College we went to the Nationals.
The best part about
everything is that:
We prayed to God
and said to Him, “If you want us to go, make a way; if not, fine but let your
will be done.” He answered our prayers and when everything else looked
impossible it was possible in Jesus Name.
Now you know why
the title of this short testimony is called “The Netball Miracle”. (And
yet people say that there is no God).
But the story about
the trip to the Nationals is another story. |
