Dear Family Members, Friends and Visitors,

HELLOand Welcome to our Newsletter for the first quarter of 2005. We have been lazy in updating this family website and know that many of our visitors are anxious to see an update. This update is a complete re-design of our site, using Microsoft Front Page 2002. Our site now contains a useful gold mine of information on Nigerian cultures and family values. New visitors should not fail to explore theArchive.

Here are the highlights of this new update:

·        The big news is that we've moved from the free site at Yahoo-Geocities to a paid site hosted by www.TRKHosting.com We've also registered a unique Domain Name as you can see in our new URL: www.oloruntobafamily.netYou can't forget that! You may find a few errors here and there, as usual with new sites. Please point them out for our correction. Visitors to the old site will be redirected to the new one.

·        Our Favourite  links remain Blake Radio Station, NigeriaWeb, Poetry of Charles Cingolani, Urban and Praise Worship and ZDNet. These sites have been improved in content and usability by their authors. For instance, Charles has added more poems to his site and told me he has published a paperback version of the poems. Neil Blake has more delightful music to show off. Well done folks!

·        In Our Interests section you'll find Grandpa's article on "IMPROVE YOUR EMAIL NETIQUETTES THIS YEAR." It is a "must read" for email users, both old and young.

·        In our Africa Forum you'll find two articles of great interest. One written by the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. Kofi Annan, reiterated the need for developed countries to put an end to the subsidies and tariffs regime which incapacitates African countries from competing fairly in international markets. The article is titled "Subsidies Can't Help Africa."The second article was culled from Nature, and titled "Fertilized to death". It called attention to the havoc fertilisers are doing to farm lands and forests around the world. Yet, African soils require fertilisers for increasedproduction. Both articles are of great relevance to African agricultural development.

·        Our Photo Gallery has grown with the addition of some more captivating pictures. You just need to see them.More are coming. Don't forget that we welcome photos you wish to share with other visitors.

·        In our Under 18s Forum we have a contribution from Moyin Oloruntoba in far away Maseru, Lesotho. Moyin wrote about a convention she attended in Bloemfontein. Bloemfontein, (the city of flowers) is the capital of the Orange Free State, in South Africa. Modupe Oloruntoba also contributed a beautiful poem titled "My Shadow."

·        In the Jokes section, Sola Ajagbe tells you "How to tell an African". He says, "It comes, as something of a surprise to many Africans to discover that all Africans look the same to non-Africans. How do you tell a Nigerian from a Kenyan or a Ghanaian from a Cameroonian?  And I am not talking about passports or clothing.  The easiest way, of course, is the name."

·        We've improved our Contact page and included two web search engines. Without leaving our site, you can use Ask Jeeves or Google to search for information on the Internet.  In addition, we have a new Feedback page for your comments. We do reply to comments so please include a return address!

·        And finally, we should not forget to mention Bunmi's 10th and 11th editions of "Letters from USA." In the 10th edition, he reported the completion of his MFA after successfully presenting and defending his thesis. In the 11th edition, he spoke about some of the challenges of his PhD program in Communications Studies.

Goodbye for now. See you again soon. Remember to visit us in our new site at www.oloruntobafamily.net/
