HELLO,
Dear
Family Members, Friends
and Visitors,
The Christmas season is
here again and this is our Christmas
newsletter. Despite the
inflation in our economy, the shops are packed full of Christmas goods -
from cards to carols, CDs and gift hampers. After doing a good revision of
the pages in our site with regard to its contents and the validation of the
Links, we made substantial new additions to the site as listed here under.
1. VISIT OUR OLD FREE SITE
We have learnt from experience
that in publishing to the web you need to establish an alternative site as a
backup in case difficulties arise from using a current site. Although we
have enjoyed a superb support from our host at
http://oloruntobafamily.net/index.html, we have some difficulties at
present. The problem is not the fault of the host but from our local ISP who
is not yet able to resolve it. We expect these to be cleared as soon as
possible. Meanwhile, go to our old free site at Tripod to view our
latest updates and improvements.
It is at
https://oloruntoba0.tripod.com/index.html.
The disadvantage of a free site is
that in trying to find the means to maintain the site, the host places sponsored adverts on
the pages. Yes, there is no free lunch anywhere even on the
Internet!
Fortunately, the adverts in our
Tripod's free site are family friendly and not too obtrusive.
2. OUR
PHOTO GALLERY
In this update, we have forty photographic
collections grouped into ten classes. Each class is labelled appropriately.
The new arrangement makes it easy to edit and expand the
gallery as required.
3. ARTS
AND CULTURE
In this update we present a startling revelation that 75
per cent of African slaves taken to Europe and the Americas were Nigerians.
This explained why most of the cultural activities practiced in those parts
of the world were similar to those of Nigeria. Read the full story in
Cultural Export.
We also have a story about a Nigerian female drummer -
Ara, the first
female drummer of repute who has taken the Nigerian talking drum to a whole new
level. Her love for drumming dates back to her primary school days when she
was the head drummer of her school. She has done so well Internationally
that
recently,
she was given a key to the Miami County, USA, by the Mayor and people of
Miami. It was the first time that an artiste would be bestowed with such an
honour, Read more in:
"Ara The Drummer".
4. NIGERIAN RECIPES
Grandma is letting you into the
secret of the recipes she is assembling for Christmas Lunch this year. She
is hoping you will be attracted enough to fly home for Christmas. You
should not miss this Christmas Buffet Lunch.
5.
SEARCH THE WEB BETTER
In this update we are
introducing a new search innovation called Advanced Searchbar for Windows. It is an easy
to use and very customisable free toolbar for Internet Explorer. You can
search using more than 160 search engines, including Alexa,
AltaVista, AOL, Britanica, EasySeek, Excite, Google, Lycos, MSN, Yahoo, and
Zeal. The Advanced Searchbar has many other useful features which you
should explore. Go to
our Search the Web page on the website to
use it and learn more.
6. OUR SOFTWARE DISCOVERIES
Like all computer enthusiasts, we
often discover some very interesting software in our surfing sessions. We
want to share some of our discoveries with you here. In this
update of our "Computing for Fun", we have a new page titled "Our
Software Discoveries." Two useful freeware we discovered recently are
presented for sharing.
They are FreeNote and
Gadwin PrintScreen.
Freenote is a virtual replacement of the yellow sticker commonly used
for sticking notes on PC monitors. Gadwin Printscreen is a simple but
efficient screen
capture software you will like. Both are freeware.
7. LETTERS FROM USA 14
Our old visitors are
familiar with the series "Letters from USA" which Bunmi sends home periodically
from the USA. Early in September, Yinka attended a medical
conference in the US and took time to visit Bunmi. It was a
great reunion as you can read from this hilarious edition of "Letters from
USA."
Said Bunmi: "His
visit here was a blast -- it went by so fast. There I was on Monday hugging
him at the airport and suddenly it was Thursday and I was driving him back
to the airport."
Yinka in his report
said: "I can’t describe how I felt when I saw him outside the airport. We
hugged for almost 5 minutes...His apartment is nice. They really live well
in the US. The apartment has A/C plus heating, cooker, fridge and even a
dish washer. There is a coin operated Laundromat just a hundred meters
away." The whole of this
edition is a "must read" not only for family members but also
for our friends and visitors.
NOW
IT IS TIME TO SAY,
MERRY
CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR IN ADVANCE TO YOU ALL.
